Advocating for Multilingual Learners in 2026:
From Fear to Facts

TOPIC: This Pre-Conference Advocacy Roundtable, “Advocating for Multilingual Learners in 2026: From Fear to Facts,” examines the effects of recent upheaval on multilingual learner education. Sharing stories of their work in different spheres of influence, panelists will address the guiding question, “What can advocacy for multilingual communities look like during times of uncertainty?” Speakers will share their national, state, district, and school perspectives and examples, guiding discussions and helping roundtable attendees identify actionable steps for continued focus on meeting the needs of our multilingual learners in 2026 and beyond.

  • Visualize and understand our unique spheres of influence and how they impact advocacy

  • Commit to taking action in our own spheres of influence
  • Affirm our communities of multilingual learners and educators
  • Transform uncertainty into actionable steps  
  • Evaluate the effects of recent upheaval on ML education

ABOUTMABE's Pre-Conference Advocacy Roundtable is a no-cost virtual event for invited guests and interested parties including school and district leaders, state education agencies, legislators, higher education institutions, and community organizations from across the region, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. By making connections and creating opportunities for collaboration among many partners, we will be able to move forward together in creating the most equitable education and language learning programs for our students, especially those in underserved groups.
